In one of them he plays the photographer of James Dean. In our interview the former vampire-star tells how he used to perceive the Hollywood legend.
Berlino. Al lussuoso Hotel de Rome nel cuore di Berlino, nascosto in un salotto dietro la lobby, Robert Pattinson si fa intervistare per il suo film presente alla Berlinale "Life", Lunedì. Con barba, capelli arruffati, sul tavolo davanti a lui una bottiglia di coca cola. Prima di iniziare con la prima domanda, l'attore 28enne apre una gomma da masticare in bocca. / Berlin. At the luxurious Hotel de Rome in the heart of Berlin, hidden away in a parlor behind the lobby, Robert Pattinson gives interviews for his Berlinale-movie “Life” on Monday. Full beard, tousled hair, on the table in front of him a bottle of Coke. Before we get started on the first question, the 28 year-old quickly pops a stick of gum into his mouth.
Nel film "Life" di Anton Corbjin, Pattinson interpreta il giovane fotografo Dennis Stock, che ha scoperto James Dean prima del suo grande successo a Hollywood. D / Q: James Dean è una delle più grandi icone del nostro tempo. Qual è l'immagine che hai di lui? / James Dean is one oft the big icons of our time. What is your image of him?
RP: Penso che ogni attore ad un certo punto passa per la fase di ossessione James Dean. Quando avevo 16, 17 anni, imitavi praticamente sempre James Dean, non importa quale sia il ruolo ... Penso che James Dean sia le persone che lo guardavano. Ma ci sono altri attore che non sono esattamente conosciuti perchè essi diventano attori (ride). Penso di essere uno di quelli. / I think every actor at some point goes through a James Dean-obsession. When I was 16, 17 years old you were practically always imitating James Dean, no matter what the role was… I think James Dean liked people looking at him. But there are other actors who don´t exactly know why they became actors (laughs). I think I´m rather one of those.
D / Q: Cosa facevi quando imitavi Dean? / What did you do when you imitated Dean?
RP: Riguarda soprattutto il linguaggio del corpo. Per esempio, qualcosa come questo (appoggia il gomito sulla coscia e la testa sulla mano). Chi mi ha visto fingere di essere James Dean probabilmente si stava chiedendo cosa stavo facendo. / It´s mostly about body language. For example, something like this (he props his elbow on his thigh and briefly rests his head on his hand). Whoever saw me pretending to be James Dean probably wondered what I was doing!
D / Q: Dalla fine di Twilight hai lavorato con registi come David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog e ora Anton Corbjin. Pensi a Twilight come una porta per altri progetti o come un problema perchè ti ha dato l'immagine di rubacuori? / Since the end of the Twilight Saga you´ve worked with directors like David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog and now Anton Corbijn. Do you think of Twilight as a door-opener for new projects or is it more like a curse because it gave you the image of a heartthrob?
RP: Ha davvero portato sempre e solo cose buone per me. Tutti devo avere a che fare con qualcosa. C'è qualcosa di positivo riguardo alle persone che ti accusano di essere una persona a ruolo fisso; ti aiuta a provare e ad essere scelto per cose diverse. Ti da energia, in un certo senso. E' divertente per smentire un'immagine. / It really only ever brought good things for me. Everybody has to deal with something. There´s something positive about people accusing you of being type-cast; it helps you to try and be casted for different things. It energizes you, in a way. It´s fun to refute such an image.
